There may have been unleashed a crazy idea that just ... 'stuck'. Here at the rocket range, there is something called Bacon Paste. During the week, we are supposed to come up with a name for the rocket collectively... Well, of course everyone knows about the socially acceptable obsession with bacon, and anything bacon related right? (Think Epic Meal Time). Somewhere, somehow, on this island in the past two days, someone suggested the name BACON PASTE. During lunch today (Wednesday) We brainstormed what types of words we could use to make BACON PASTE into an acronym.
I give you: Ballistisk Aeronatisk Canadian Og Norge Professional Atmospheric Space Telemetry Experiment. Now, It is really late (12:26 am) and I may not be in the most clear thinking mindset, but I believe that is how you spell it.
Has anyone ever had someone say to them "Yeah right, when pigs fly." -> I give to you, a flying bacon paste. Now you have an excuse and story to back it up when someone doesn't believe you, or uses the flying pig excuse!
Since it is so late, and I've got to sleep, and I don't want to forget some things I've got in my mind right now: I'm going to put pictures here tomorrow, and just write some things down that we did today.
1) Got a presentation about a really big sounding rocket being used by some Cornell university researchers to study mesosphere (ICI-3 NASA sponsored, I saw JAXA/ISAS on some slides as well... Any ISAS people care to elaborate?)
2) Went for a swim in the Arctic ocean. Damn that's cold. Going to get a certificate of authenticity.
3) Got a presentation from a U of Oslo researcher who developed a smaller faster better langmuire probe (Great lecture)
4) Witnessed a hybrid rocket firing (solid and liquid fuel)
5) Witnessed a weather balloon launch.
6) Witnessed model rocket firings X 5
7) TOOK A SWIM IN THE OCEAN - Just in case you missed number 2)
7.5) Spoke at length with a German exchange student studying plasma separation in Norway. Also learned from him about a cool technique for interpreting data from some rocket sensors to find out it's spin accurately.
8) More tomorrow! When we launch the rocket.
QUESTION OF THE DAY! - How cold is the water I swam in today?
