CaNoRock

What is CaNoRock?

For those who don't know, I'm going to be traveling to Andenes, Norway for the period of October 2nd to October 7th. I leave this Friday the 30th and will be staying in Oslo, Norway for a night on the way, hopefully I'll have a chance to see some of Oslo before catching my plane the next morning.

CaNoRock (Canada Norway sounding Rocket program) is a one week program where students from Norway, Alberta and Saskatchewan travel to a rocket range near Andenes, Norway. The rocket range is called Andoya and it is 2 degrees in latitude above the arctic circle. The program involves learning about rockets, learning about atmospheric physics and how to build and launch a sounding rocket. If you want to know why the rockets used are called sounding rockets, then check out the wikipedia article for Sounding Rockets (the Internet is a wonderful thing!).

I'm traveling along with two others from the U of S, and there are several from the U of C and several from the U of A going as well. Here at the U of S we are getting quite excited to be leaving on Friday, we know several others who have travelled to this program in the past and they all say positive things and had a great time.

To whet your appetite for reading this web log later on.... check out this video of a past CaNoRock program on youtube: ROCKET !!!

Now that I have your attention... haha rockets are awesome!
